Counting with clicks or the keyboard
The count-up button is at least 120 pixels tall, so it is easy to hit on a phone without looking. On a computer, Space, Enter, + or ↑ counts up and − or ↓ counts down, as long as the cursor isn't in a text field; holding a key down doesn't repeat, so one press is always one count. Each change is announced to screen readers with the counter's name and new value. Tick Show tally marks to see the count as groups of five (four strokes and a diagonal) for counts up to 500.
Several named counters
Add counter creates up to 20 counters, each with its own name and total, for example cars, bikes and pedestrians in a traffic survey, or each answer option in a show of hands. Type over a name to rename it. The small + and − buttons in the list change any counter directly; the big button and the keyboard change the selected one. When there is more than one counter, the total of all counters is shown under the current name.
Counting down and resetting
−1 subtracts one step, and counts can go below zero, which is useful for tracking a balance such as seats left or stock taken out. Step applies to both directions. Reset to 0 clears the selected counter and Reset all clears every counter; both show Undo for 10 seconds, so a mistaken tap doesn't cost you the count. Remove deletes a counter, also with undo.
Saving and exporting counts
Every change is saved immediately to your browser's local storage, so the counts are still there if you close the tab, reload or come back next week on the same device and browser. Nothing is sent to a server. Private windows and clearing site data remove the counts. Download CSV saves each counter's name and count plus the total as a spreadsheet-ready file. For counting words in text instead, use the word counter; for converting counted hours, the hours calculator.
