Copied from a web page with a softhyphen.
Load this text with Example in the second panel. The no-break space becomes a normal space; the other hidden characters are deleted.
Types of invisible characters and where they work
| Character | Width | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Hangul filler U+3164 | Wide blank | Blank names and messages |
| Braille blank U+2800 | Space-sized | Blank messages, spacing in bios |
| Zero-width space U+200B | None | Line-break hints in long words |
| No-break space U+00A0 | Space | Keeping “10 kg” together |
| Word joiner U+2060 | None | Preventing a line break |
| Half-width Hangul filler U+FFA0 | Narrow blank | Alternative when U+3164 is blocked |
The Hangul filler and Braille blank look empty but aren't classed as spaces, so apps that trim spaces from names usually leave them alone. That's the whole trick, and also why apps sometimes block them.
Copying a blank character
Pick a character, choose How many (up to 1,000), and press Copy. The preview shows the characters between brackets so you can see the gap, with the code point and size in bytes. Paste it into the name or message field. Zero-width characters are hard to work with in a text box because you can't see or select them, so delete and paste again if something goes wrong.
Finding hidden characters in text
Text copied from web pages, PDFs, chat apps and AI tools can carry characters you can't see: zero-width spaces, word joiners, byte order marks, soft hyphens, direction marks and Unicode tag characters (which can hide whole sentences). They break searches, password and code comparisons, and spreadsheet formulas. Paste text into Find and remove hidden characters to list each one with its code, name, count and line; Show where they are marks their positions.
Removing zero-width characters
Copy clean text copies the text with every hidden character removed, and Replace my text with the clean text swaps it in place. No-break spaces become normal spaces when Treat no-break spaces as hidden is ticked. Keep joiners inside emoji leaves the zero-width joiner between emoji alone, because it's what joins 👨, 👩 and 👧 into one family emoji; removing it would split them. For double spaces and tabs, use remove extra spaces.
Why some apps reject blank names
Blank names make impersonation and spam easier, so many games, social networks and messaging apps trim or block invisible characters, and some check for specific ones such as U+3164. Rules differ between apps and change over time, which is why the tool offers several characters: if one is rejected, try another, or combine it with a visible character. No character is guaranteed to work everywhere, and this page can't test the apps for you.
