Compress JPEG to 30KB

Getting an image under 30KB

Add JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images. Each is saved as a JPEG at the highest quality that fits in 30,000 bytes, with the dimensions reduced in proportion only when quality alone isn't enough. A JPEG that is already under 30 KB is returned unchanged; press Re-save if you want it re-encoded anyway.

30 KB suits small profile photos, thumbnails and forms with a 30 KB cap. It gives noticeably more room than 20 KB for a face photo.

Dimensions that work at 30KB

At medium quality (about 1–2 bits per pixel), expect roughly 400–570 px on the longer side for a 4:3 photo. Simple images, such as a face against a plain wall, a logo or a grayscale document, keep more pixels; detailed scenes fewer.

Set Max width or Max height if the image must be no larger than a particular size. It still comes out under 30 KB, and usually at a higher quality because there are fewer pixels to store.

Why the output is JPEG

JPEG is the format upload forms accept almost everywhere, and for photos it is much smaller than PNG: PNG is lossless, so a PNG photo is usually several times larger at the same dimensions. PNG, WebP and HEIC input is therefore converted to JPEG here, and transparent areas are filled with white (change the color under More options).

If you must keep transparency, choose PNG in Output format. The tool then reduces the number of colors and, if needed, the dimensions to fit 30 KB.

Checking the result

Each result row shows the size in KB and exact bytes, the width and height, and the JPEG quality used. Press Preview to compare it with the original side by side. If a form still rejects it, check whether it also requires exact dimensions or a minimum size; the photo resizer in KB handles both.
