How to use the JPG to PNG converter
- 1Press Choose images and add one or more JPG or JPEG files.
- 2Each file is converted straight away; check the new size in its row.
- 3Press Preview to compare, then Download or Download all (ZIP).
When converting to PNG helps
- Editing. PNG is lossless, so you can edit and save the image many times without adding JPG artifacts at each save. Convert once, edit the PNG, and export a JPG at the end if needed.
- Software that requires PNG. Some upload forms, design tools and game engines only accept PNG.
- Adding text or graphics. Text added on top of a photo stays crisp when the result is saved as PNG.
For photos that will just be viewed or shared, keep the JPG: it's smaller and looks the same.
Transparency: what conversion can't do
A JPG has no transparency, so its PNG copy has none either: a white background stays white. Making the background transparent means deciding which pixels are background, which needs an editor with a background-removal or magic-wand tool. For simple logos on a plain background, tracing the logo with the PNG to SVG converter can be an alternative.
File size after conversion
Expect the PNG to be larger, often several times larger for photos. JPG throws away detail the eye barely notices to save space; PNG stores every pixel exactly, including the noise and compression artifacts in the JPG. The conversion is exact, so it doesn't lose anything further, but it can't recover detail the JPG already lost.
Batch conversion
Add any number of files at once. They are converted one after another, each row shows the original and new size, and Download all (ZIP) saves them together. Location and camera details (EXIF) aren't copied into the PNG.
