How to use the WebP to JPG converter
- 1Press Choose images and add one or more .webp files.
- 2Set JPG quality; 85–92 keeps photos visually unchanged.
- 3If the images have transparent areas, choose a Background for transparent areas.
- 4Press Download on each row or Download all (ZIP).
Why some sites serve WebP
WebP was designed for the web: it usually produces smaller files than JPG at similar quality and supports transparency, so pages load faster. Image services and content delivery networks often convert images to WebP automatically for browsers that support it, which is why "Save image as" gives you a .webp file even when the site uploaded a JPG. Some editors, upload forms and older apps still don't accept WebP; JPG works everywhere.
Quality and file size
Both formats are lossy, so converting re-encodes the image. At JPG quality 85–92 the result looks the same as the WebP for photos, but the JPG is usually somewhat larger, because WebP compresses more efficiently. Lower the quality only if the file must be small, and check the Preview for blockiness in skies and smooth areas.
Transparent WebP files
WebP can be transparent; JPG can't. Transparent areas are filled with the color you choose under Background for transparent areas: white by default, black, or a custom color matching where the image will go. To keep the transparency, convert to PNG with the WebP to PNG converter instead.
Batch conversion
Add any number of WebP files. They are converted one by one, each row shows the size before and after, and changing the quality reconverts the whole list. Download all (ZIP) saves the JPGs together with their original names.
