How to use the PNG to JPG converter
- 1Press Choose images and add one or more PNG files.
- 2Set JPG quality (85–92 is visually lossless for most images).
- 3Under Background for transparent areas, choose White, Black or Custom.
- 4Press Download on each row or Download all (ZIP).
What happens to transparency
JPG has no transparency. Every transparent or semi-transparent pixel is blended onto the background color you choose, white by default. Soft edges such as shadows and anti-aliased outlines blend smoothly into that color, so pick the color of the page or document where the image will go. If you need to keep transparency, stay with PNG, or use WebP, which supports it and is much smaller.
Choosing JPG quality
Quality 85–92 looks the same as the PNG for most photos and gives a much smaller file. Lower values save more but show blocky patches in smooth areas and halos around sharp edges. Screenshots, text and line art show these artifacts sooner than photos, which is one reason they are usually better left as PNG. The Preview shows the selected file side by side with the original.
Batch conversion
Add as many PNGs as you like; they are converted one after another and each row shows the old and new size. Change the quality or background and the whole list is converted again. Download all (ZIP) saves every JPG in one file, keeping the original names with .jpg.
When to keep PNG
Keep PNG for logos, icons, screenshots, diagrams and anything with text or sharp edges, and for anything that needs transparency. Convert to JPG for photos, which are usually several times smaller as JPG. To shrink a PNG while keeping it a PNG, use compress PNG.
