IP Address Lookup Tutorial

Step 1: Open the IP Lookup Tool

Open ip-lookup in your browser. The interface is laid out with a clean green-themed header, input card on the left, and result panel on the right.

Step 2: Enter an IP Address

Type a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address into the IP Address field. The tool supports public network addresses and will validate the format before sending the request.

Step 3: Use the Lookup Button

Click the Lookup IP button. The tool uses a browser-friendly API call to retrieve geolocation, ISP, ASN, timezone, and country data for the entered address.

Step 4: Review the Summary Cards

Once the request completes, view the summary stats at the top of the result panel. These cards show IP address, IP type, country, and region in a concise format.

Step 5: See the Country Flag

The country result now includes a large flag image next to the country name. This makes it easier to identify the region visually and adds a polished data result style.

Step 6: Explore Extended IP Details

Scroll down to the detailed results grid. It includes city, postal code, timezone, UTC offset, latitude, longitude, ISP/Org, ASN, currency, languages, and connection type.

Step 7: Copy the IP Address

If you need to reuse the address, click the Copy IP button. This copies the current lookup address to the clipboard so you can paste it into reports, logs, or other tools.

Step 8: Reset the Form

Click the Reset button to clear the input and hide the result details. This resets the interface for a new network lookup or a different test address.

Step 9: Use it Responsively

The page layout is mobile-friendly. On smaller screens, the input controls stack above the result panel so you can use the IP lookup tool smoothly on phones and tablets.

Step 10: Best Practices for IP Lookup

  • Use a public IP address for the most complete geolocation data.
  • Avoid private LAN addresses when testing the lookup service.
  • Check the ISP/Org field to verify the provider or corporate network details.
  • Use the timezone and UTC offset data for accurate scheduling or audit records.
  • Validate results with multiple IP addresses when comparing network locations.

FAQ Notes

What if a lookup fails? Ensure the IP is valid and the browser can reach the API endpoint. If the service returns an error, try another public IP or refresh the page.

Can I lookup my own IP? Yes, leave the field blank and the tool will fetch your current public IP automatically.

What does ASN mean? ASN is the Autonomous System Number that identifies the network provider or routing domain for the IP address.
